Everything a student pilot keeps track of

Progress toward the licence

Each requirement as a bar, with hours done and hours left, from Transport Canada's Standard 421 minimums for the licence you train for.

My calendar

Lessons, ground school and exams by day, week or month. Start the timer from today's lesson and it's logged as dual when you check in.

GPS flight timer, any aircraft

Tap Start flight on the school's aircraft. Takeoff, landing and airports are caught by GPS and written to your logbook.

Aircraft I fly

The school, club and rental aircraft you fly, with their POH and checklist at hand. Canadian registrations fill in the make, model and type code as you type.

My documents

Your permit, medical, radio certificate, exam results and training records, with a checklist of what you need and what's expiring. Medical expiry worked out from your exam date and age.

Training cost tracker

An estimate from your aircraft and instructor rates, then your payments for the exact total, so the licence has a budget.

Paper logbook to digital

Photograph your logbook pages; PilotKeep reads the lines and checks each page's totals.

Badges on your home page

Your photo and name at the top, and a badge for every first: verified, first flight, first solo, first cross-country, first night, 10, 25 and 45 hours.

Reports for your instructor

Totals by period and type of time, exported to PDF or CSV in one tap.

Badges and milestones

Celebrate every step to the licence

Your logbook lights up a badge for every first, and your milestones are ticked with their date, from the student pilot permit to the flight test.

Questions

Student questions

Is PilotKeep Student really free?

Yes, for verified student pilots, for as long as you train. No card is needed. Owners and pilots with a licence pay for PilotKeep, and that is what keeps it free for students.

Who can use PilotKeep Student?

Anyone 14 or older training for the Canadian private pilot licence (airplane or helicopter) or the recreational pilot permit, who doesn't own an aircraft in PilotKeep. Student lasts until that licence or permit; commercial licence and rating training are on the Pilot plan. If no flight is logged for 12 months, we simply ask you to confirm you're still training.

How do you check that I'm a student?

Your flight school can invite you, which verifies you right away. Otherwise send one photo of your student pilot permit, aviation medical certificate or a flight school or ground school enrolment letter within 14 days. We keep only the result; the photo is deleted after the check.

How is my progress toward the licence counted?

From your logbook entries, against the minimum flight experience in Transport Canada's Standard 421 for your licence: for the private pilot licence (aeroplane), 45 hours including 17 hours dual and 12 hours solo. Each line shows the section it comes from. Your flight instructor has the final word.

Can I use the timer on my school's aircraft?

Yes. Type or pick the registration and tap Start flight. GPS catches takeoff, landing and the airports, and the flight goes to your logbook. The school's own records stay with the school.

Can I plan my lessons and keep my documents in PilotKeep?

Yes. My calendar holds your lessons, ground school and exams, and today's lesson starts the flight timer. My documents keeps your permit, medical, radio certificate, exam results and training records, shows which ones you still need, works out when your medical expires from the exam date and your age (CARs 404.04), and reminds you before anything expires.

What happens when I get my licence?

Tap "I got my licence": PilotKeep sends your Certificate of Achievement and a congratulations email, with a Graduation Gift of 3 months of PilotKeep Pilot free. You add a card, nothing is charged before month 4, we remind you 7 days before, and you can cancel anytime; then it's $99 CAD/year or $9.99 CAD/month. If you buy into an aircraft within your first year, your first month of Owner ($39 CAD/month) is free. Your logbook comes with you either way, and you can always export it.

Does it replace my official logbook?

The logbook records what a personal log must contain under CARs 401.08. Keep your official records as Transport Canada and your school require, and export PilotKeep to PDF or CSV at any time.

I'm under 18. Is that OK?

Yes, from 14, the age for a student pilot permit. Nothing is shared publicly unless you choose to, we send no marketing emails without consent, and under 18 we also ask for a parent's email.
